Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Ocala on Monday to discuss his plans for tax relief in the state. The Governor was joined by local leaders, including Mayor Kent Guinn, to discuss the impact of his proposed tax cuts on the local economy.

The Governor’s plan includes eliminating sales taxes on manufacturing equipment and materials, reducing the state corporate income tax rate from 5.5% to 4.5%, and raising the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $75,000. DeSantis also proposed eliminating the business rent tax, which is estimated to save Floridians $400 million a year.

Speaking to local leaders, DeSantis said, “These tax relief measures will benefit the entire state and I’m proud to be here in Ocala to discuss them. We want to make sure that everyone in Florida, no matter where they live, can benefit from these tax cuts.”

The Governor’s plan drew praise from Mayor Guinn, who said, “I’m thrilled that Governor DeSantis is focusing on tax relief for Florida businesses and residents. This will help our economy grow and create jobs in the area.”

The Governor’s plan has been met with mixed reactions from state lawmakers, with some expressing concern about the impact the tax cuts will have on the state budget. DeSantis, however, is confident his plan will be approved, saying, “I’m optimistic that the legislature will come to a consensus on these measures and that we can work together to make sure everyone in Florida has a chance to benefit from this tax relief.”

The Governor’s plan is just the latest in a series of initiatives he has taken to boost the Florida economy. With the approval of these tax cuts, DeSantis hopes to make Florida an even more attractive place to live and work.
